چکیده

The formation rate of a close binary consisting of a super-massive black hole and a compact object (presumably a white dwarf) in galactic cusps is calculated with help of the so-called loss cone approximation. For a powerlaw cusp of radius ra, the black hole mass M ∼ 106M⊙, and the fraction of the compact objects δ ∼ 0.1 this rate Ṅwd ∼ 4 · 10K(p) √ GM r a ≈ 3 · 10K(p)( M 10M⊙ ) 1/2 ( ra 1pc ) −3/2 yr. The function K(p) depends on parameter p determining the cusp profile, and for the standard cusp profiles with p = 1/4 K(p) ∼ 2. We estimate the probability Pr of finding of a compact object orbiting around a black hole with the period P in one particular galaxy to be Pr ∼ 10( P/10 s M/10M⊙ ) 8/3 ( 6M⊙ ra/1pc ) 3/2 . The object with the period P ∼ 10s emits gravitational waves with amplitude sufficient to be detected by LISA type gravitational wave antenna from the distance ∼ 10Mpc. Based on estimates of masses of super-massive black holes in nearby galaxies, we speculate that LISA would detect several such events during its mission.

Orbital circularisation of white dwarfs and the formation of gravitational radiation sources in star clusters containing an intermediate mass black hole

Aims. We consider how tight binaries consisting of a super-massive black hole of mass M = 10 − 104M⊙ and a white dwarf in quasi-circular orbit can be formed in a globular cluster. We point out that a major fraction of white dwarfs tidally captured by the black hole may be destroyed by tidal inflation during ongoing tidal circularisation, and therefore the formation of tight binaries is inhibite...

On the Progenitors of Super-chandrasekhar Mass Type Ia Supernovae

Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) can be used as the standard candlelight to determine the cosmological distances because they are thought to have a uniform fuel amount. Recent observations of several overluminous SNe Ia suggest that the white dwarf masses at supernova explosion may significantly exceed the canonical Chandrasekhar mass limit. These massive white dwarfs may be supported by rapid diffe...

Star Cluster Ecology: VII The evolution of young dense star clusters containing primordial binaries

We study the first ∼100Myr of the evolution of isolated star clusters initially containing 144179 stars, including 13107 (10%) primordial hard binaries. Our calculations include the effects of both stellar and binary evolution. Gravitational interactions among the stars are computed by direct N-body integration using high precision GRAPE-6 hardware. The evolution of the core radii and central c...

Forty Years of X-Ray Binaries

In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...

Different Types of Ultraluminous X-ray Sources in Ngc4631

We have re-examined the most luminous X-ray sources in the starburst galaxy NGC4631, using XMM-Newton, Chandra and ROSAT data. The most interesting source is a highly variable supersoft ULX. We suggest that its bolometric luminosity ∼ a few 10 erg s in the high/supersoft state: this is an order of magnitude lower than estimated in previous studies, thus reducing the need for extreme or exotic s...
